BABY BOOMERS ARE WHINERS _ A story in the Washington Post says a survey released recently by the Pew Research Center which measured the pessimism, dissatisfaction and general curmudgeonliness of adults in various generations shows baby boomers are, well, a bunch of whiners. More than older or younger generations, boomers -- born from 1946 to 1964 -- worry that their income won't keep up with rising costs of living. They say it's harder to get ahead today than it was 10 years ago. They are more likely to say that their standard of living is lower than their folks' but that things don't look too good for their kids either. Sixty-seven percent of younger generations, meanwhile, feel they have it better than their parents.
... Interestingly, of all generations Boomers should be the happiest, considering that this is the population with the highest median income. Boomers also have fewer difficulties affording housing or medical care, the survey says, and they enjoyed greater job security last year than older or younger generations.
One person interviewed by the Post think she has it figured out, though. Mary Furlong, who runs a California consulting firm helping companies reach out to boomer consumers, and who fits the demographic herself, says, "Basically, it's because we were always on the front end of opportunity and optimism until now." Now, Boomers are the sandwich generation. Now, they are caring for aging parents who live longer and longer and longer, and for boomerang children who graduate from college and then move right back home -- minus rent or rules.
WOMAN GETS MEN AT WORK SIGNS CHANGED _ Across Atlanta, Georgia, they stood, orange signs with black letters that read "Men At Work" or "Men Working Ahead." Sometimes, the signs stood next to women working alongside the men. And that's why Cynthia Good demanded Atlanta officials remove the signs and last week, Atlanta Public Works Commissioner Joe Basista agreed. Public Works officials are replacing 50 "Men Working" signs with signs that say "Workers Ahead." It will cost $22 to cover over some of the old signs and $144 to buy new signs. Good, founding editor of Atlanta-based PINK Magazine, a publication that focuses on professional women, said she's not stopping with Atlanta: "We're calling on the rest of the nation to follow suit and make a statement that we will not accept these subtle forms of discrimination."

For the last two months speculation ran wild as to if Marvel Studios would bring Favreau back for the sequel. Inside sources said that Favreau wanted a modest raise, but the comic book turned movie production company’s initial offer wasn’t much more than what the filmmaker earned for the first film. The second Iron Man film is scheduled for an April 2010 release. But with no screenplay in development, even Favreau has expressed concern over an unrealistic timeline.
